| Carnival marks 42nd plastic surgery for Brazilian model
BEIJING, Jan. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- To get ready for dancing nearly nude at the head of a 300-person drum corps during Rio de Janeiro's five-day Carnival blowout in February, Brazilian model Angela Bismarchi is having her 42nd cosmetic surgery closing in on the Guinness World Record of 47 surgical procedures held by 52-year-old American Cindy Jackson. "I always was vain, Bismarchi, 36, acknowledges at the medical clinic near Rio where her plastic surgeon husband has operated on her 10 times. "And for carnival, you have to feel especially pretty. I consider myself quite timid. I'm just a little girl grown big." Just days before Brazil's Feb. 2 to 6 carnival begins, Bismarchi will have nylon wires implanted in her eyes to give them an Asian slant, in line with this year's theme of her samba group, Porto da Pedra: the centennial of Japanese immigration to Brazil.

Sinus surgery clears up fatigue, too, study shows
I suffer from nasal polyps and am constantly stuffy. As described above, when I get a cold, it quickly turn severe. I had the surgery 10 years ago and have been told that if the polyps grew back, I'd have to have the surgery periodically. I'd like to avoid surgeryif possible. I take nasal steroids on a daily basis which, for the most part, allow me to breathe through my nose somewhat. I've been told that the surgery is not necessary but a quality of life issue. I'm trying to hold off if possible. I've twice had the pin prick test for allergies with no allergies found. The blood test called the Immunocap sounds promising. .
Expect the unexpected in NL
They were an out away from making it a bottom-feeders clean sweep, but Brian Giles shook some life into the Padres with a home run of extraordinary significance. What have you done for me lately seems to be an appropriate theme as we head into the final few days. Giles had done nothing and was in the midst of a miserable slump before his heroics. Meanwhile, there certainly must be some folks in New York and Philadelphia getting concerned, considering the way the Mets and Phillies are playing. Right on cue, as some teams fall down, others pick up the slack in a big way. In this case, those two teams are the Rockies and Braves. Either club would be a great comeback story in a season of great comeback stories. The way things are going, there's been some chatter about potential six-way tie scenarios for the NL's wild-card spot.

The 33-year-old third baseman batted .400 during Boston's sweep of the World Series against the Colorado Rockies after a strong regular season in which he hit .324 with 21 homers and a team-leading 120 runs batted in. He hit .353 (18-51) with two homers and 15 RBI in 14 postseason games. .
Food Prices Climbing, With No End in Sight
But to me, those differences today pale in comparision to the fight we have on our hands to take our current government of the corporation, for the corporation, and by the corporation back into the America of a land where the government is of the people, by the people and for the people. So, this constant strain of attack against Ron Paul just amazes me. I don't think Ron Paul will get the Rethug nomination. But if he did, I'd vote for him over Hillary in a general election in a heartbeat. And what I really, really, like to see is some sort of unified Paul-McKinney opposition campaign against both corporate parties in the general election. As long as we stay divided as an opposition, the corporate parties will stay in power. Why do we insist on hating our natural allies? .
Taiwan says can't match $6 bln China aid to Malawi
The Malawi flap is Taiwan's worst diplomatic crisis since the island broke ties with long-time ally Costa Rica in June. On Friday, Malawian leaders suddenly told the Taiwan foreign minister to cancel a scheduled visit. A Malawian foreign ministry official said later that the country would give diplomatic recognition to China but retain economic links with Taiwan. The Malawi ambassador to Taiwan was unavailable for comment. But Taiwan had averted another potential showdown, Yeh said, as newly elected Marshall Islands President Litowka Tomeing has indicated he would stick by Taiwan rather than push for ties with China as suggested by media reports last year. "He has said multiple times that he would stick by Taiwan," Yeh said of the South Pacific nation's president-elect.
