| Fergie Denies Plastic Surgery Claims, Criticizes Magazine
Fergie has slammed an American magazine for suggesting she has undergone cosmetic surgery on her nose and eyebrows. Two pictures of The Black Eyes Peas star - one from the 1980s, and one from 2007 - are printed side-by-side in the current issue of Us Weekly, and a surgeon tells the publication it's likely Fergie has had a rhinoplasty procedure. But the 32-year-old has denied the claims, and admits such speculation upsets her so much she has seen a therapist. Fergie says, "One of those (celebrity) magazines says I've had a nose job and an eyebrow lift, which is completely untrue. Personally, I see a therapist. It's hard, it hurts my feelings. I call my hypnotherapist and cry and let it go. That's what I do (to cope). I think that they nitpick these days so much and it's just got to the point where it's ridiculous." And Fergie isn't the only celebrity angry with this week's issue of Us Weekly - actress Scarlett Johansson is threatening the magazine with legal action over claims she had undergone plastic surgery on her nose.
Apple’s lawyers threaten fake Steve Jobs
The Fake Steve Jobs blog is always entertaining. And never more so than now. According to recent posts on the blog, site owner Daniel Lyons has been approached by Apple to accept money in return for closing down the site. After initially announcing the offer on the blog, Lyons was then contacted by Apple's lawyers threatening legal action and telling him the deal was not meant to be public knowledge. The ensuing debate is fascinating as Apple's lawyers get increasingly heavy-handed. (Updated) After Lyons makes public the offer of cash to shut down the blog, Apple's lawyers return with a letter in which they tell Lyons that there are at least three posts on his site that they "deem to be actionable", a lawyer-speak way of threatening legal action. The three posts are listed in a later blog post and involve predictions made on the Fake Steve Jobs blog about upcoming product announcements by the company.
Bubble bursting?
But this episode seems more serious than the dotcom one however, and it probably won't be resolved quite as easily. Why? Because in 2000, we only managed to soften the landing from the crashing of the stock market bubble by creating a housing bubble. That supported American consumer spending, (enabling Asia to carry on exporting). Alas this time there are no more obvious bubbles to create. So today's cut in interest rates will struggle to support consumer spending at the levels necessary to act as a motor to the global economy. Indeed, fiscal policy will struggle to do that either. If you want to know the challenge facing the world, it is summarised by the American savings ratio - the proportion of disposable income saved by American households.

ORINDA, Calif. -- Debbie, a 17-year-old now down to 86 pounds and ever closer to her secret goal of 81 pounds, slowly awoke in her bed on a hospital intensive care unit. She was so groggy from her drug overdose that the only thing she noticed was the painful burning sensation in her nose. She then discovered that she couldn't move her hands to rub the unpleasant sensation away. Debbie had survived her suicide attempt and finally figured out that padded leather restraints secured her wrists and ankles to the sides of the bed. The burning sensation came from a tube that had been inserted through her nose down into her stomach. The tube had been used initially to pump out whatever pill fragments in Debbie's stomach had not been absorbed before she reached the hospital. After monitoring her for awhile the medical doctor decided that because her nutritional condition was so precarious, the nasogastric tube would be used for feeding Debbie's malnourished body.
