The combination of documentation, campaigning and lobbying became a model of what we would like to do on other countries in the region. We put a high priority on building ties with human rights organizations in the region. Research associate Patricia Gossman travelled through India in March to assess the needs, priorities and concerns of local groups. Fact-finding missions to the Philippines and Indonesia and trial observations in Taiwan and Singapore reinforced ties with domestic human rights monitors, and communication with groups in Korea remained close. We continued to produce reports and bulletins which received wide circulation throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. We published comprehensive reports on Indonesia, Singapore and Nepal, a short report on Khmer Rouge abuses along the Thai-Cambodian border, and 16 issues of News from Asia Watch on topics ranging from death marches in Burma to restrictions on civil liberties in Taiwan.

It's about 30 minutes before kick off of the Chick Fil A Bowl where Auburn will be taking on the talented Clemson Tigers. I wanted to give my quick thoughts on why I believe Auburn will win this game. 1. While Clemson has a very strong running game, Auburn has faced the tandem of McFadden & Felix Jones when they played Arkansas earlier in the season & they virtually shut down the Hogs excellent rushing attack. I don't believe the Clemson RB's to be superior to those two so I think that will be a big factor in Auburn's favor. 2. The "mystery" spread option attack. While AU certainly has not had time to install the full package due to the limited amount of practice time allowed since they hired new OC Tony Franklin, I think this unknown element will cause some defensive problems for Clemson.

NBH posts fiscal gains
NORTH ADAMS After losing money for six consecutive years, Northern Berkshire Healthcare found black ink in fiscal 2007, officials said yesterday. Richard T. Palmisano, CEO of NBH, the parent company of North Adams Regional Hospital, said the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, 2007, showed a surplus of $325,000 on $78.4 million in total revenue. "We had an excellent year last year," Palmisano said. "But we're not out of the woods yet. To make a profit of $300,000 in an $80 million budget is nothing. So I don't mean to imply that the turnaround is complete." He said that a $2 million essential community provider grant from the state helped get the budget back in the black, and that he hopes to get the institution to the point where that grant is no longer a part of the profit-and-loss formula.
